| Washington state's Kevin Vermillion has opened shop and need support. While many high-end hobbyist only consider the purchase of imported koi for competitions judged largley by Japanese standards, domestic koi are having a big influence on what most hobbyists stock their ponds with. Local koi grower is open for business THE BELLINGHAM HERALD A new business that sells koi fish is open. Mud Pond Koi opened in May and specializes in domestic koi. Owner Kevin Vermillion said keeping koi combines the esthetics of gardening with the pleasure of pet care. “Koi are fascinating fish that add true beauty to a water feature,” Vermilion says. In addition to selling fish, Mud Pond Koi provides growing out services in its four large mud ponds. “Koi grow faster and their colors become much richer when they grow in the clay of a mud pond,” Vermillion says. “The growing out service is ideal for people who want bigger fish. Faster.” Mud Pond Koi also offers pond consulting services and is open seasonally, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
